White Man’s Religion? NOT Christianity!
Christianity: The religion of the whites?
Martin Luther King called Sunday “the most divisive day in America.”
Truer words were never spoken.
A few years ago I was preaching and, Lord, help me, my opening words were, “Look around. What do you see? Blacks, Hispanics, Asians and others …. they were all there, but we had holes in our net and we couldn’t keep them. Jesus said: “The kingdom of God is like a net that catches all kinds of fish.” (Matthew 13:47) These include black, brown, red, yellow, Protestant and Catholic, small, large, male. and a woman.
As Americans, we often create worldviews that the rest of the world hates. As for American CHRISTIANS, I have often heard and read about third world pastors saying how they wish they had the money that Americans collected to go on their “mission trips” so that they could better care for their families and churches… shopping. Bibles and study materials, go to seminary. Can we even imagine a group of naked naked people coming into our churches to share the latest “revelation” that God gave to their nation? Yet we spend a lot of money across the pond for “life-changing” (whose life?) short-term mission events. Don’t get me wrong, I believe in missions, especially those that want to help the sick and children, but I have heard many stories from missionaries who admitted that they felt NO difference in their mission trips and from the Nationals themselves. he could have used a nice romantic gift instead.
I once taught a Sunday school class in a room full of many Black African pastors, their small frames lost inside their oversized, old-fashioned suits and ties. Between them, their congregations were in the region of 40,000 people. These humble men were taking notes, asking questions, paying attention to my every word. I don’t know about them but, for me, THAT was a life changer! God bless those who were wise enough to fly these African pastors to the USA to come back home and teach those they already had relations with (key words).
Regarding this so-called “white man’s religion”, it is true that some people mistakenly believe that Christianity is a white man’s religion just as others see Islam as a black man’s religion. My people, Hosea 4:6 says: “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge…” Let’s try to KNOW the truth because the Scripture says, “they will know the Truth, and the Truth will set you free.” John 8:32). What you are about to read, I believe, will be VERY liberating.
THE TRUTH OF OUR ANCESTORS
Black Christianity did not begin in America with slaves who converted to the religion of their masters. Genesis 10 shows us where all the nations came from. The Black Line is given by families, languages, places and countries. The Bible tells us, in Genesis, that everyone began with Adam and Eve. EVERYONE! Genesis 2:7 tells us that Adam was created from the earth. Science has proven that we are all made from the same materials that are found on earth. The Hebrew word for Adam is Adahm, meaning “red” or “from the red earth.”
Yes, Adam was a blind man!
After the flood, it was Noah and his children who filled the earth (Acts 17:26; Gen 9:18,19). His sons were Ham, Shem and Japheth. These names mean Black, Dusky and Bright, or “fair,” respectively. Biblical historians agree that Ham is the ancestor of the black races – Mongoloids, Egyptians, Ethiopians, Canaanites, and Indians. From Shem came the Jews, Arabs and Persians. From Japheth came the Greeks, Caucasians, Russians, Indo-Europeans.
One black child in three? Well, we don’t know exactly HOW dark the pigment of the other two was, but, is it possible? With God, ALL things are possible. Let’s face it, if you were the Supreme Creator, wouldn’t you have created humans and animals?
Look around. Look in the mirror…God has been VERY CREATIVE. Medical research tells us that it is possible to have children of a very different color, especially if one or both parents are very dark, but it is impossible for a white-skinned person to give birth to a black child. So, for Noah to have a “black” son, he or his wife had to be blind, too.
To be clear.
Noah’s son, Ham, the father of the African and Black tribes, had four sons… Kush, Mizraim, Phut and Kanan, Genesis 10:6. Cushi was the father of Ethiopia (Gen 2:13; 10:6) and people living in Asia and Africa. Kushi means “black” and Ethiopian means “a person with a sunburnt face.” Jeremiah 13:23 says, “Can a Cushite change his skin…?”
Mizraim gave birth to the Egyptians and his name means “children of the sun.” Eventually, they started worshiping it again, but that’s another story. Ham comes from the Egyptian name “Kam,” a strong word in the Egyptian language meaning “black.” The Book of Psalms refers to Egypt as “the land of Ham” (Psalm 78:51; 105:23, 26, 27; 106:21,22). Phut was the father of the country of Libya, (Ezekiel 27:10; 38:5; Jer 46:9 and Nahum 3:9). Libya also means “black”.
Ham’s last son was Canaan, cursed by Noah in Genesis 9:20-26. Although we have all heard of Ethiopia, Egypt and Libya, surprisingly there is no Canaan today. Note: Contrary to the teaching of SOME, it was NOT the entire black race that was cursed, only the Canaanites, because of the sin of Canaan. They were the first people of Israel (1 Chronicles 4:40) but they are no more. Oh, how blessed they would be! Yes, there are long-term consequences of sin, which even affect our descendants.
Noah’s children migrated, spread throughout the world: Japheth’s people in modern Europe, Shem in the Middle East. Ham’s descendants went to southern Arabia, Africa, and India. Cushi had a son named Nimrod (Gen 10:10) who built the tower of Babel as well as Erek, Akkad and Kaline near the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, the beginning of all civilization (Gen 10:10; 11:1).
The sons of Cush founded the mighty Assyrians, the builders of the city of Nineveh.
The Bible does not mention Phut’s genealogy.
Ham’s descendants included Menelik, a descendant of the Queen of Sheba and King Solomon, from whom the Ethiopians trace their origins.
Joseph married an Egyptian woman (Gen 41:50-52) so his sons, Manasseh and Ephraim certainly had Hamitic (Black) blood.
Jethro was an Ethiopian and converted to Judaism because of the testimony of Moses (Ex 18:1-12).
Moses also married an Ethiopian woman (Numbers 12:1). Was he black? It would be! In Numbers 12, Miriam and Aaron began to argue with Moses because of his Cushite (Ethiopian) wife, showing contempt for his parents. This angered Jehovah and Miriam was stricken with leprosy (interestingly, this disease would not only make MIRIAM an outcast, but her skin really turned white because of the disease. Poetic justice?” When Moses pleaded with her, God healed her and returned her to the camp). NOTE: It is my contention that Miriam’s real problem was not so much Moses’ wife as her gift of prophecy and her special relationship with God. Maybe he wanted to be known (the appearance of Miriam’s body) instead of being humbled by Moses’ acknowledgment of how much he admired her.
The Bible does not show any prohibition of Jews marrying Achus (Ethiopians) and they seemed to have a good relationship with them (Amos 9: 7; Psalm 68: 31; Zeph 3: 10; Is 11: 11).
Yehudi was a scribe in the king’s court during Jeremiah’s time and he was a descendant of Cush (Jer 36:14,21,23) as was the prophet Zephaniah.
From the line of Ham came Joshua, and David’s grandmother, Rahab, a Canaanite. Bath-sheba means “daughter of Sheba.” Sheba is listed in Ham’s family register, Genesis 7.
Bathsheba married Uriah the Hittite, whose roots go back to Ham’s grandson, Heth (Gen 10:15). King Solomon’s skin and hair are described as dark but beautiful (Song of Solomon 5:10,11).
Moving on to New Testament times, scholars believe that the wise men who searched for the baby Jesus (there is no biblical record that there were only three) were Ethiopians because gold, frankincense, and myrrh were abundant in southern Arabia and eastern Africa. .
The Ethiopian eunuch in Acts 8:26-39 undoubtedly brought Christianity to Ethiopia.
Simon the Canaanite was considered a Black apostle (Mat 10:4).
Simon of Cyrene, who helped Jesus carry his cross, must have been a descendant of Ham since Cyrene was in northern Africa.
Apollos (Acts 18:24) came from Ham too. Indeed, the tribes that descended from Ham were there at Pentecost (Acts 2) and the establishment of the Church.
Simeon, or Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene were leaders of the Antioch church (Acts 13:1). The people in these areas were black. These were the men who anointed and ruled the great apostle Paul.
JESUS: A Man of Many Colors
Jesus was of different parents. You heard that right…Jesus was a mess! Our Lord was a man of color! Although he was Semitic, of the five women mentioned in His generation, Tama, Rahab, Ruth, Bathsheba, and Mary, the first four came from Ham, the son of Black Noah (Mat 1:1-16).
Let’s say, people, man looks outside, but God looks in the heart (1 Sam 16:7). It doesn’t matter if you are green with orange spots! He is not looking for appearance or appearance. He is not interested in how we look, how we talk, and where we live. He doesn’t care how religious we are or how beautiful our church is. He doesn’t care how we dress, drive or what religion we profess.
You see, there was no room in the Inn when our Savior was born and now He is looking at our hearts, regardless of the epidermal appearance, to see if there is room for Him to rule the life of each person as Lord.
No matter what color our epidermis may be, the question we must answer is: are we there?
