Animal Farm By George Orwell – A Novella Of Didactic Language And Political Ideology

Animal Farm, a technical novel by George Orwell was written in 1945. It falls under the category of novella because it is short and has less plot than a novel. The main story of Animal Farm is about how Czarist Russia turned into communist Russia after the Russian Revolution in 1917. Orwell used the animal farm as a basis to represent Russia and the animals that lived on the farm as who in the Russian Revolution. Animal Farm is a story-telling that uses literary devices to reveal hidden meanings and messages.

The Oxford Dictionary defines an allegory as a story, poem, or image that can be interpreted to reveal a hidden, social or political meaning. Not only that, Animal Farm is a comedy. The same Oxford Dictionary defines satire as the use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or satire to ridicule, expose and criticize the stupidity or vices of people, especially in contemporary political and other social issues. Animal Farm fits into both categories appropriately.

At the time the book was published, it was not well known, it did not command widespread reading because Russia was an ally of the West against the tyranny of Germany led by Hitler in World War II. Showing that they are denigrating the people of Russia and its communist leaders, the European countries felt that this would be of no use if they published the book in groups.

The author himself was not anti-communist. In fact, George Orwell is said to be a socialist who supported the belief that industries should be under the control of workers (workers) to benefit everyone, not just the elite, who controlled these industries. However, he saw the fraudulent revolution of communism in Russia, which led to a change in attitude.

Orwell was appalled at how communists had gone astray, abandoning their good intentions in pursuit of a society without humanity. Orwell’s conviction was that he owed the world a warning of the destructive nature of authoritarianism.

He insisted on showing the other side of communism when it was taken to extremes without checks and balances and how the leaders of this cause succumbed to the pleasures of the world, the same group that built pleasures that they despised on other ideas; hence the world saw the birth of Animal Farm. Orwell used metaphor clearly, criticizing the hypocrisy of communism, especially its zealous leaders, their actions and their thirst for merciless murder and mass murder in order to preserve their culture.

The use of the pig, of all animals, was what made this novella famous. In the layman’s mind, pigs are lazy, infertile animals and end up as meat in many delicious vegetables. However, Orwell was ahead of his time. He used pigs as his antagonists and antagonists in Animal Farm for the same reason that modern science has revealed amazing things about these creatures. Scientists want people to think of pigs as more than just animals. Among other talents, pigs are known to have long-term memories and have the ability to complete mazes and recognize symbols, just like our close cousins the chimpanzees. They are also empathetic and can learn from each other in groups.

After all, Orwell used pigs as a myth, challenging all the myths surrounding these animals as lazy but smart, lazy but loving, unyielding but a genius with a sense of humor, scheming and planning cleverly. Pigs are large animals known as slobs. Orwell was quick to compare some of the leaders of the world, especially from the point of view of communism, to pigs, perhaps because of the deception in which they lived their lives; floating in an economy made up of rulers who for the greater part of their miserable lives remained poor and needy, where the leaders were fat, ugly and unhealthy.

The Old Major in Animal Farm was a pig, portrayed as old and wise, conventional and dignified. Old Major had a dream where ‘all animals are equal’. This was given to the animals, who rejoiced at the prospect of saving themselves from the higher classes – people. Orwell used Old Major to represent Karl Marx, the founder of Communism and the Communist Manifesto, based on Marxism. Old Major’s words represent Marx’s words about the evils of feudalism and capitalism.

The speech also emphasized about the communist country. Thus, the Russian Revolution of 1917 was encouraged by those who strongly believed in the teachings of communism. In the Marxist approach, it first used economic and social research to analyze and criticize the development of capitalism and the role of class struggle in economic reform.

According to Marxist theories, class conflict within capitalism is caused by the growing conflict between the production of highly developed machines by the workers (workers), and the private ownership and distribution of the surplus value (profit) by the small class. ‘no. a small number of property owners called the bourgeoisie. In Animal Farm, the bourgeois were represented by Mr. and Mrs. Jones, the people who owned the animals, often abused them. Mr. and Mrs. Jones can also relate to the last Tsar of Russia – Nicholas II and his wife Alexandria, who were hated by Russia at the time for unnecessarily dragging Russia into the First World War. impatient, a rebellion began, and drove the people from the farm and ruled themselves.

Besides the old boss, the other pig person was Snowball. Snowball rose as one of the leaders at Animal Farm. Snowball was portrayed as a brave and intelligent person. He was tasked with spreading the newfound glory of Animal Farm throughout the region. Snowball represents Leon Trotsky – Lenin’s deputy in the Russian Revolution and leader of the ‘Red Army’ in the Russian Civil War.

Trotsky also wanted to spread the message about communism to other countries. However, fate was different when Snowball and Trotsky were overthrown by ruthless and corrupt people who craved power more than anything else.

Napoleon was another pig who became the protagonist of the novel. Instead of encouraging the other animals to act in harmony, he secretly raised nine puppies to become man-eating predators. These nine children were his army of bodyguards that he used and controlled to achieve his goals, no matter how treacherous and cruel they were. Napoleon represents Josef Stalin – General Secretary of the Russian Communist Party from 1922 until his death in 1952.

The nine puppies were the equivalent of the KGB – the secret police of the Communist Party, known for its brutality. The KGB followed all of Stalin’s orders religiously without fear or favour.

Accepting the lies of disloyalty at Animal Farm, and the executions that followed were tested during Stalin’s great purges in the 1930s in which anyone seen as a dissenter was mercilessly killed.

Squealer, another character in Animal Farm is a pig who always spreads persuasive messages that support the leader’s goals and objectives. Squealer is the epitome of deceit and lies. He restores the rules and reputation to disturb the other animals on the farm. He may also represent Pravda- a Russian communist newspaper that was the propaganda of the party in the 1930s. With his sorcery like words and deceptive speech, Squealer kept the people (animals) calm and controlled with his misleading and twisted messages and announcements.

Animal Farm serves as a reminder of how people seek unlimited power to control the lives of innocent people through ‘divide and rule’ and ‘control by fear’ to achieve their goals. Accordingly, some have gone down in the history books as exemplary or infamous. This novella is perfect for use as a reading material for middle and high school students.

Students will not only learn the English Language, but also various writing tools – similes, jokes, jokes, similes and the personalities that come with them. The book contains many jokes in which the author ridicules the actions of the leader and the students will also be able to use their thoughts in the box to find out why some people managed to gain power, how others kept this power at any cost, how others misused the power they were given to gain their goals theirs, how some misused their power by using violence and threats, and how others defeated powerful human insurgents.

Besides, the historical events represented in the book will provide an insight into the Communism and the history of Russia. Later, Marxism gained support in many parts of Europe, and under the leadership of the Bolshevik Party, a communist government seized power during the Russian Revolution, which led to the establishment of the Soviet Union, the first Marxist state, in the early for the 20th century.
