Since you’re reading this right now, I’m assuming you’re not that kind of person and my hope is that you’ll find this article helpful as you build on what you already have. It’s easier to aim in the right direction from the beginning than to go through the motions and try to correct your path later. But I’m not one to tell the truth, so here it goes: Creating the life of your dreams is not a piece of cake. However, it can still be a fun and rewarding journey.
So with that said, let’s get into it! There is GREAT advice out there on how to be successful and build an amazing life, but I think it boils down to 5 main topics…
STEP 1: Know what you want
The first reason people don’t get what they want in life is because they don’t know what they want in the first place. The truth is, if you want that dream to come true, you must first have a dream. It seems like a smart idea, but the trick is not to get caught up in the details and get lost in it “Why not.” Me: “Why? Am I going to achieve this?” Unfortunately, many people limit their potential and the many experiences they could have because of it “why” it becomes overwhelming or just seems impossible. Starting with this part of the process is like dreaming on a budget – it’s not practical.
In fact, this can be a really fun way to make a Christmas list—but sadly, I’ve seen many people struggle with this because their passion seeds have been buried by self-doubt and negative “answers” from us. parents, teachers, coaches and peers. Because of this, we can lose our desire to do extreme things and stop dreaming of what we can do for the sake of practicality.
This is why we must remember rule #1: The limits of our imagination are often the limits of our potential. This is why we can’t afford to have our rational thoughts limit our potential in the first place. When we try to be “smart” or “practical” (according to other people’s standards) we become numb to our true desires. If we ignore what our heart is telling us then we can miss out on the great things that life has to offer. Instead, we need to think big and be creative.

It may help to ask yourself this question: “If I achieved this goal, how good would my life be?” When times are tough, the answer to this question (aka: profits) often determines whether we lose or keep going.

STEP 3: Create a plan

* A list of potential pitfalls and distractions to avoid
Having a map also allows you to enjoy the journey. Sometimes working toward a big goal can seem slow and frustrating at times, but knowing you’re getting closer to the milestone can be a great morale booster. In other words, the small victories along the way allow you to recognize the progress you are making.
Remember, the plan doesn’t have to be perfect before you start using it – it never will be. It should be well-designed, but it won’t be flawless so don’t hesitate to test the details. It is a prophecy, not a prophecy. There will undoubtedly be times when the map (made in the mind) does not match the field (real reality). However, having a plan gives you the confidence to know you have a strategy before you go into battle.
STEP 4: Expect the best but prepare for the worst
Always believe that you can achieve the goals you set, but make sure that your expectations allow you to recognize the progress you are making. Why? Because problems are inevitable – even for those who are good at what they do. Successful people have very high standards for themselves, but they also know that some problems will arise. As a result, they are not easily discouraged or shaken. Instead, they keep moving forward when most people feel overwhelmed and give up.
Life doesn’t always go as planned so set your goals and stay positive about the future, ask yourself, “In order to achieve my goals, what challenges will I face and how can I overcome them?” We can’t think of everything, but we can cover most of the possibilities. Proper preparation helps us stay calm, interpret the situation accurately, make better decisions, and respond quickly.
STEP 5: Make it happen
Believe it or not, this is where people get into a lot of trouble. There are many people who know what they want, have great plans, but never follow through—or worse, never start! As Tony Robbins bluntly stated, “In life, most people know what to do, but only a few do what they know. Knowing is not enough! You have to do something.” And the only person who can make you chase your dreams is… you guessed it: YOU.
Be willing to take action to achieve your goals and aspirations. Start where you are and start doing something every day that brings you closer to where you want to be. The process is simple. If you don’t get the results you want, try something else. If this doesn’t work, try something else. Keep trying until you find a solution. It is impossible to fail if you try, learn, and change.
Keep your eyes on the target, work hard, and enjoy the process. Remember that sacrifice will pay off.
