NTA TV College – A Time To Say The Obvious Truth

Years ago, people enjoyed the support of the government, individual or group to read any way they wanted in any educational institution. Today things have changed a lot. Today, getting admission in high school or higher education is difficult. It is a thing of the past for a child who has been admitted to any high school to celebrate with friends and neighbors, or even have a party for such success. This is because news of such acceptance these days goes with great importance, in terms of money. Since many schools are scattered everywhere, one would expect that financial problems will not be a major issue to consider. Things are getting worse because those who benefited from government and private aid years ago, are the ones today who don’t want anyone else to enjoy what they used to enjoy.

Nigeria being one of the largest countries in Africa, several efforts have been made by successive governments to solve the issue of poverty and education. Because of good education, many people can boast that they have good money, which they can raise many of their cousins, and take care of many uncles and aunts in their families with their salary. Even though many of these people were not able to do as much for themselves with dignity as their peers from the more affluent areas, education seems to have the power to cure poverty. Could this be the cause of the free education program in the former Western Region of Nigeria?

Well, when we talk about education, it always feels like we are throwing away everything that brings it to the door of the government. We can’t really be wrong, because we also have a part to play. Seeing that poverty does not have a single cause, but many causes, perhaps more destructive than others, we can identify any of the actions according to our skills with the aim of solving the problems or preventing the return of dangerous things, since we can identify the cause of poverty is not rocket science.

MKO Abiola set an example, and so far many people are blind to that idea. Those empowered by the government and the likes of Abiola still find it difficult to understand why poverty is still a problem in a country like Nigeria. The few who could look in the mirror came up with some ideas about the declining quality of education in Nigeria. A few of these ideas became major projects while the rest died in the game they were designed for. Among the few teachings that were seen was for the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) to establish an organization that will train and retrain their staff in television.

When the regional countries were united to form the NTA in 1977, it became necessary to train the staff to deal with the challenges ahead. This led to the realization of this dream in 1980 when the NTA Television College, located in Rayfield Jos, was established. Although at the beginning, the emphasis was on skills/Short Course, and later, Diploma Certificate in Television Journalism, TV Production, TV Design and TV Engineering, but in 2003 the Central Management of NTA established a committee to oversee the promotion of TV channels. college to be a degree-granting institution. This was done through the affiliation of the College with the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria in 2006 resulting in the College offering the degree of B.Sc Mass Communication (Television).

This college however maintains excellent relations with a number of academic institutions within and outside Nigeria. Apart from the association with ABU Zaria, the College is a member of CILECT which recently appointed Rector Dr. Ayo Fasan as a member of the Board. This college as it stands today is no longer seen as it was in the past and is only training people for short courses and diploma certificate, but today it is open to the general public to fulfill their responsibility of imparting knowledge and skills in broadcasting.

It is therefore important to remind readers that the College, like any other institution, has challenges that are hindering the realization of its vision of becoming a world-class broadcasting institution. These problems come from inadequate classroom blocks, chairs (School desks), staff rooms (offices), modern library, electronic equipment, cameras, lack of drinking water, lack of hostel accommodation, etc. All these problems are coming. great as the days go by, it is clear that the founding fathers and managers of this interesting organization rested for a long time after achieving what was seen as the best, not remembering that the Nigeria that used to be good in providing quality and character. cheap education, they won’t be happy with unattached achievements.

However, based on the available years, it is clear that this College has produced many children. Among the children of this one person, we can find one or two people who can be the source of the wind under their father’s wings. Having graduated many people who are today enjoying the benefits of this dream of training to promote excellence in broadcasting, it is my opinion that a little work from famous children to their alma mater will really make a difference in lives. and the education of other people after them. The authorities have also worked hard to ensure that the quality of education is maintained, that fees are kept to a minimum to encourage aspiring professionals, and that the school’s various qualifications are valid and strong enough to compete with those of other institutions.

When there is no difference between the management and the things of the organization, something new will really start in the College. Thanks to a joint effort, a book can be purchased and placed in the school library; a classroom desk, a computer and studio cameras, a generator, and even an incentive for students to share roles. This is the only way that the goal of creating, quality education in television broadcasting around the world, and broadcasting graduates who have the ability to create truly African ideas, can be achieved.
