It’s vacation planning time again, and you know for sure that you want to spend it very differently than in the past. A different holiday because perhaps, the year so far has been trying and stressful with all the talk of job cuts, economic uncertainty, and now even swine flu. Get back to nature, socialize with friendly people, refresh yourself with scenic walks, fresh air, and the soothing sound of waves on a sandy beach.
A sailing vacation in Barbados takes you on a journey to discover the beauty of Barbados and Barbadians, through four spectacular, revealing, and unforgettable tours. Their journeys and accompanying stories show how Barbados came to be, seemingly empty since 1627, when the British settled and turned the jungle that others rejected, into the gem it is today. Even the geological formation of the island is a special case of something “empty”. Many visitors to the island look forward to meeting the local people, and learning about the famous Barbadians of the past.
Walking along the brown sand beach, you can see the sandy beach, and find “sea coconuts”, “lucky seeds”, a washed up Portuguese Man of War, to name a few finds. At the entrance to the land, there are various places to walk, such as small grass paths, and many small sandy paths. One continues to climb up to 167m (547 feet), to reach the highest point, which offers a panoramic view of fifteen percent of the island.
Descending from the lookout through winding paths, winding through cobbled streets one enters the Barbadian village. A village of wooden houses, concrete houses, at least five small churches, in this small area, and of course not forgetting the rum shops, surprisingly only two serve this village. If you see a person living in the village who knows how to make pottery and is a descendant of potters 200 years ago.
These mountains of the Scottish Highlands, are a combination of sandstone, clay, and alluvial mud. This part of the island looks like another country, compared to eighty-five percent of the land. Instead geologists call this Scottish Territory Ancestral Barbados, and it is the stuff of another country, three hundred miles south of Barbados. Out of these seemingly insignificant things, Barbados was formed, rising like a sphinx from the Atlantic Ocean, two million years ago.
Learn about Manjak and his various activities as you explore what is left of the mine. Manjak is a type of hydrocarbon that was used as fuel in the furnaces of local trains, it was also exported to be used as a key ingredient in the production of black paint, and in the production of old, but brittle, 33 1/3 vinyl records.
On a trip to Barbados one can visit the nature reserve, where there are the ruins of the old Great House, and the cart roads of the wildlife reserve. Impressive, spectacular, and heritage, the 355-year-old Jacobean mansion, steeped in history, stories of greed and murder to name but a few. It is a working sugar plantation, with a well-maintained and functional 19th-century mill used to extract sugarcane juice. Last year 2008 this old estate received an international award for its best rum, the good news continues.
The area is full of beautiful villages, beautiful scenery that offers a great view of the Scottish countryside. a two-hundred-year-old sugar mill, which operated during the local sugar harvest, demonstrating how the sugarcane juice is extracted using wind power. There is also an interesting goat farmer, who is a famous newspaper columnist, and a singer in a local band, his most famous personality.
There are downhill trails for those who don’t want to do the hilly terrain, as well as coastal trails, rugged and scenic. Barbados offers roads that lead between sugar cane fields, and rivers (also known as rivers) with rocks such as stalactites, stalagmites, pillars, and moving stones.
A vacation in the tropics of Barbados, is beneficial in many ways, fresh air, and exercise, with vitamin D from the sun, a pleasant and pleasant change, when you discover a new country and its people. Being outside in nature, is relaxing, and has proven to be beneficial for the mind and body. A healthy and refreshing way to enjoy the holidays.
