Thoughts on Zombieland

About a week ago, I had the opportunity to see the newest blockbuster comedy/horror movie “Zombieland.” Was it good? Was it bad? The anticipation of the film’s release was very high and it created quite a buzz. Photography is the first thing I want to explain. The film stars Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin. The selling point of this film is undoubtedly Woody because I feel that without his name attached, it would not have done as well as it did. Woody is cast as a cowboy whose mission in life is to find the last twinkie in the world. Basically every moment with him in it is fun and he doesn’t stop.

Jesse Eisenberg was good but every time I watch him, I always watch someone better like Michael Cera for example. Emma and Abigail just piss me off but I think every movie these days has to have some kind of appeal and Emma Stone fulfills that role. He is a very handsome actor so it is a pleasure to see him on screen and for the most part, his performance is tolerable.

However, how the plot is affected is very important. Woody wants his twinkie, Jesse wants to see his parents, and the two girls want to go to Pacific Playland so Emma can give her little sister some quality time. What follows is one hell of a ride and from start to finish, I was never tired. There’s also a famous cameo by a half-movie actor whose parts had me laughing the entire time.

One big thing I want to mention! The video opens with a slow montage to “For Whom The Bell Tolls” by Metallica and I don’t think I’ve ever seen the audience cheer as much as they did when it started. Applause, whistles, and cheers filled the room and I was truly inspired. No movie in recent memory has done that for me.

If you are a fan of zombie movies, comedy, horror, and/or silly fun, you will enjoy this movie. Don’t go into it expecting an Academy Award-worthy action or a hard-hitting story because you’ll be disappointed. It’s a straight action/comedy and for what it is, it does very well. It’s easily worth the price and I’m looking forward to its release on Blu-Ray. Go see it! You will NOT be disappointed!
