Living With Maine Coon Cats

I have always admired cats of any breed for their independence, cleanliness and determination to go their own way.

I have 3 older cats and decided to adopt a kitten to foster because I missed the fun that kittens bring to my life. After watching a TV show about different cat breeds I fell in love with the Maine Coon breed and decided it was the kitten I wanted. I found a breeder near where I live. I was so excited to visit the kittens and find a new addition to my pet family.

The kittens at only months old were larger than other breeds and had beautiful long fur coats and tails. I was hooked!!

I brought my new four-month-old kitten home to introduce him to the rest of the family. My two big dogs and 3 older cats were very curious and of course, the cat hid under the bed where all kittens seem to hide when they are scared.

After many hours of trying to convince him to come out of his hiding place he slowly appeared.

Misty, what was now her name, seemed quite disturbed by all the attention she received and soon settled down to become a very lively young lady, creating chaos throughout the house, many decorations were destroyed and plant pots were investigated, especially these. who had dirt to play in!

I got a call from the breeder asking if I could take another kitten while he was closing his business, so of course I couldn’t say no. Off I went to get this kitten that needed a home, to find when I got there that there were two kittens, that were very sick and I could see that they needed medical attention. I argued with myself why I would take this extra responsibility but, I was very sweet – heart, I could not turn my back on them.

So for the next two weeks, I kept them away from the other cats and nursed them day and night. With the help of my local vet, they pulled in and I could rest easy that all my care and attention gave them a chance at a happy life.

Now they are well settled in their new life and are causing complete chaos in the house being destructive and playful as all kittens are, but the Maine Coon breed is a determined breed, with an ability to be content to be alone they or they run over. the house, all three of them at once, rearrange the carpets and furniture! They can grow up to four feet long, so I hope they will be established by then or my house may be in turmoil!

I started with one kitten and now I have three, would I do it again?

You bet I would!!!
