A Blog for Bloggers – 7 Ideas I Use When Writing My Blogs

I have been writing my blog for just over a year, I write and post a new blog every day. Sometimes I suffer a little writer’s touch, however not very often, I find if I follow these 7 ideas I can develop unique content, always. There are a lot of blogs written about “quality” content, just what it defies description, I have not read a definition of “quality” content that does not define it when it says it must be “quality” content. What kind of content is for one person is completely useless for another, for me the sentence means nothing outside of accurate spelling, good grammar, excellent punctuation, and a good flowing manner. My company is in the freelance niche, it is an easy niche to write about as I can relate most life skills to it. My way of dealing with blogs is briefly summarized in these 7 rules that I find myself following mostly by instinct.

1) I write only one person, it is not possible to write interesting articles that will interest thousands of people while doing my goal. Abraham Lincoln said it best with his statement, “You can please some of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all the time.” So I do not try, as an example of my last blog, posted this morning, wrote about the eruption of the volcano in the Philippines, Mount Mayon. I spent time in the island country from 1970-1973, I was in the Navy and the ship I was stationed on called the port of Subic Bay. This blog was written with the memory of a small child, he was about 10 years old at the time, who led a water buffalo down the side of the highway. He had no clothes on him, obviously very poor, I think of him as being 50 years old today. I make every attempt to identify with the trials and tribulations of his life journey, compassion is a real part of my writing. It is the most important part of this blog, there are thousands of people like him in the world, in my mind, all will be related to this blog, they are all on the Internet today, they are important. I make sure I answer every comment as soon as I can, it’s important too.

2) I choose a word to start and build from there, I read everything, all day. During this reading, there are many topics of interest to many people, each of these topics consists of words, sometimes thousands of words. Of these thousands of words, I will choose one, I will then do a mental exercise in word relationships, many mornings while lying in bed, (while in the name area, do not get up, do not stay in bed area) I will think of all the words I can relate to this one. All these words are the subject of being a part of, or the main word of my keyword, or more likely my keyword phrase. When I go through this thought process I also come up with ideas for other blogs, sometimes the blog I intended to write takes a back seat due to creating ideas for blogs related to this word that I feel I have to write first . I never take more than one word forming one idea at a time, I’m not a multi-tasker. Many of my niches include “homesteading”, so if I chose the word “ice cream” it would allow me to write many blogs before I got to the how. Evoking key phrases creates openings for other blogs. For example with the key phrase “make homemade ice cream from scratch”, it is possible to start the series of blogs with a blog about building an enclosure for your new milk cow, which should be one blog. Some words are easier than others, weather disasters for example practically write themselves, others like the DNA of a salamander would take a lot of investigation and study for me. Almost any word will work, it depends on your knowledge of the subject and your willingness to study it which is the deciding factor. I found that people are interested in everything, if you question this, take another look at what search terms you use to find anything on the Internet, more than most likely millions of websites are listed.

3) I don’t pay attention to the word count, that’s not what I’m in, I’m in it because I like to write, read, and think about people and life in general. I have written a few blogs with 800 words, maybe one or two, I have not written any less that I can remember. I have written many blogs over 2,000 words, however, most are in the range of 1200-1800 words, but I am not hooked on word count, I do not pay any attention to it until I finish. When I let word count dominate my writing, I find myself doing myself a disservice, if I’m writing a mediocre blog and forcing words I find it can turn into terrible writing, just as it is possible to turn into a great blog. . in a mediocre one in the same way. I have never found the opposite to be true. I write until I finish writing on the subject, the word forced appears to be just that, forced. It’s a bit like playing music, (I play the guitar), if a piece of music is written in the scale “C” and I finish it with an “F” chord for example it sounds finished and leaves the listener (or musician) eager it must end with a “C” chord or note. That’s what a performer says to band members to “bring it home now”. As in this paragraph, when a topic is used up it is time to go to the next one, it has a natural end if I write more I will lose you.

4) I use my companies “mission statement” to orient my blog around, after all, I’m trying to encourage people to pay a visit. I’ve always believed in a mission statement, I’m not going to stick and copy it there because it has no relevance. The goals of the company are set in a statement that is able to bring me back to the basics of why I started a business, it’s important. It is also a reminder of who I am, because after all, I wrote it with my interests and ideas about what I want to accomplish with my work. If you don’t have a mission statement, maybe you should, just writing it brought a new perspective to how I think about how I participate in my business.

5) Write for people, not search engines, my main focus is always people, after all the other side of what I write in “notepad” is someone who reads it, you are what is important. Other than complying with the obscure requirements of the major search engines, keywords, SEO, and original content there is not much else to do for the big guys, due diligence goes a long way. I never cut and paste anything, I don’t even quote, I use links if I want to reference an article. I make sure you have 3 sources before I write my blog unless I know everything about the subject, (boy that will be the day), I made this mistake once and called out on a piece of false information, it is not fun. In my reading and investigation, I make sure that the information I digest is current unless I write a historical document that I often do, check the dates of the article, Most of the time if it is older than a few months it is history, I must know the difference

6) I don’t pay attention to making money, I have the attitude that if I do diligence and write well the money will come, it always has. I do not want to present myself as greedy, it is easier to do than most people realize, My personal belief is that if all a person’s interest in life is money, they are condemned, look at Facebook, greed appears. I have a grandson I worked with to start a music blog, he wrote like two blogs and asked me when he would start paying. (What you’re thinking are my exact thoughts, holy cow.) I advertise very rarely and when I do it’s maybe one product, I don’t like being the target of a sales pitch always, so I don’t hard to sell anything. , many blogs do, I don’t read them. When I advertise I use a Link, even then it must be a product directly related to the sentence I just wrote. For example, if I just write an article about tying knots I can add a link with a notation “This link is to buy 50 feet of natural fiber rope.” And my sales are up front and honest, when you click on this link you know before you click on it you are encouraged to buy something.

7) I’m not a “shock jock”, I won’t write about Politics, Religion, Abortion, Gun Rights, or participate in any local discussion, it’s just my nature, nothing I can solve in 120 words. tweet or a Facebook argument. I’m not trying to fix the world, I have a vote, and I use it, that’s all.

This is a summary of how I blog, it works for me, maybe you would like to try some of my ideas, I’m not sure how successful my approach is, it seems to work, I get readers every week, it’s a slow process. I’m in it for the long haul, I don’t plan on ending my blog anytime soon, I’ve been writing since I was in elementary school.

I appreciate your time to read this,

Thank you, Jacques
