This is a bit “controversial,” but what is the purpose of a statement of purpose. In a statement of purpose, you state what you are looking for. The reader knows what you are looking for. You want to work there. Why waste valuable paper space stating what both you and the reader know to be a fact?

But more importantly, you want to leave open the possibilities of greater opportunities, or even lateral opportunities, beyond what a job you are applying for. Most objective statements are limited to the narrow specifications of the job you are applying for. Or the reader will be too busy trashing your resume to consider anything else.

In plainer terms, the reader doesn’t really care what your goals are. The reader only cares about his goals and his need to fill the position with the most qualified person. Therefore, you must write the summary to meet the needs of the reader “flamingly”.

Cover letter

You must always include a cover letter. A resume without a cover letter is bare and more likely to get thrown out than one without. An effective cover letter prepares and engages the reader to go to the resume. This is a critical issue, both for you and the reader.

No Date

If you send a resume that is missing a lot of dates, then you can expect that resume not to make the cut. That it is your age, gaps in work, too much work in too short a time; if you miss dates on your resume, the reader will assume the worst.
