Magical Mystical Miracles Part III – My Dog Suki Shape-Shifted Shorter Nails
Our puppy Suki was about 3 months old when my ex and I visited a friend’s house. When we caught him for a nail trim, he squirmed and my ex cut the quick. As Suki ran away I watched in horror as the drops of blood spilled onto our friend’s carpet. Shame, I lost it. I started crying hysterically and uncontrollably. I was sure his negligence was the direct cause of me losing an arm in a past life (do you think I’m kidding here?).
Needless to say, as a result of my hysterics, Suki grew seriously disliked nail trimming, to the point of absolute panic. He was so freaked out about the whole nail incident, combined with the “docking” of not being the vet before I got him, (this is another story) that he would hide under the bed in the only glimpse of any which applies metal.
The next time we tried to trim her nails, Suki was about a year old and 75 pounds. of pure muscle, his nails were a definite problem. Seeing the growing terror in her eyes as we held her, I asked my ex-husband to think for a moment and wonder if wearing her was the right thing to do. We both got “no”. So I told Suki we would not force her, but she had to somehow manage her nails so that no one was hurt. I command the words that are now famous: “Whoever you are in this dog’s body, if this is not something we need to go through, then manifest shorter nails!”
At night his nails were all perfect length-smooth, no rough edges!” I almost did not believe my eyes, but I had 2 other witnesses living in the house who verified this. (PS so we all think he must have filled them on some concrete-we live in FL on sandy roads and he never leaves the carpeted house; but you can stick to your logical explanation).
While I have read stories of great beings and sages morphing their physical structures to become taller, thinner, shorter, etc. I had never personally witnessed this ability to change shape. And I don’t know exactly what made me think of calling on Suki to access this great siddhi, or spiritual power, at that moment. Except that I had seen and felt his extraordinary Presence many times, and I trusted that we were not supposed to force it, so I called in the only other way I could think of-a miracle.
For more than 8 years Suki manifests short nails in this magical way. I had to bring it to his attention maybe 4 more times when I noticed they were getting long. I would just get his attention, remind him of this original conversation, and say “whoever you are in this dog’s body, if you don’t need to go to a physical nail clipper, then take care of it yourself and create nails short”. At night, they would still be the perfect length again.
However, this all changed when he was 8-1/2 years old. I noticed that his nails had become long again, and I had a sinking feeling that it was time to face the demon of nail trimming. It became clear to me that Suki had let go of her fear, but I was still worried about getting a bleed. I had to go buy a trimmer because I don’t even own one anymore.
One day, I was very calm and felt daring to try trimming again. I tried to sneak up on him before, and it always backfired and I lost a lot of confidence with him. So I knew I had to come straight on and show her what I did, and manage my anxiety first. That was key—to manage my emotions so as not to trigger his fear.
I was very empty and I could approach him and the tailors-a miracle in itself. He watched closely but did not bolt as usual. When I found them around his nails, and were ready to press the blade down, I had a thought “wonder if I’m doing it right” and my stomach tightened. That was all Suki needed to bolt under the bed. But the sequence was clear to me now… a worried thought, a feeling of incompetence and anxiety about hurting her – and it’s gone! It was MY anxiety that caused the panic. He totally read me for his reaction now-when I was calm and empty he was fine … as soon as I contract, he read “Not SAFE” and bolted.
It took me another two weeks to find this deeply calm again. Meanwhile I practice cutting tree branches to build my confidence on using the nail clippers. I also took the nail clipper many times in his eyes and left it out so he could see. When I felt very comfortable I approached him, he let me put it on his toenail without moving, and I successfully cut a nail! The loud sound of the cut put him off however and he tensed, but I quickly put the throttle down before he bolted. I realized I had built our entire relationship on respect and trust, and I could no longer exert control and force with him.
I thought it was more important for both of us to maintain this new confidence, so I decided to wait and only cut when we were both relaxed, even if it took me a month to trim all his nails. And it took more than that.
Suki left her body this year, but when she transitioned, I was able to keep my balance, check my energy and quit when she was scared; in this way I accomplished cutting all his nails finally! Even though he obviously had the uncanny ability to change his nails shorter, he never failed to be the Teacher and help me overcome my obstacles. We both walked through our fears this year.
