I’m A Celebrity BET Me Out Of Here
This year sent another desperate collection of have-beens, never-were’s and soap opera cast-offs thrown into the Australian jungle to raise money for “charidee”, although we know it’s getting their face back on the box and a beautiful bank. Christmas bonus in the process. “I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here”, now in its fifth incarnation, is one of the most entertaining reality TV shows and it’s car crash TV at its best.
Where else can you see a mildly recognizable media personality covered in molasses and green ants, eating cockroaches and other “jungle delicacies” or being thrown into a water tank surrounded by crocodiles and eels in a bid to rescue a career that has started ?
While the show has audiences squirming as “that bird used to be on TV” munches down another specially fattened up caterpillar to try and win a meal for hungry comrades who are limited to rations of rice and beans, there are also plenty of betting opportunities for fans. armchair
Here we will take a look at the runners and riders and how they went after the first day spent in the forest.
SOUTH OWEN
Best price: 3/1 (sports odds)
Played “Rickaaay Butcher” in Eastenders off and on since 1989, but spent the last few years running his restaurant in France. She has been out of the media spotlight since her singing career failed to take off and admitted she was “bored” and jumped at the chance to appear on the show. Ricky, sorry South, was immediately instilled as the bookies’ favorite to win as he appears to have the “everyone” quality that saw Phil Tufnell romp to victory in Series Two.
SHEREE MURPHY
Best price: 7/2 (sports odds)
Another former soap “star”, Sheree’s character, Emmerdale’s “Tricia Stokes” was killed almost three years ago when a pub chimney fell on her head during an unusually violent storm, on Christmas Day of all days as rotten luck would have it. Since then she has raised her young children and lives the life of luxury thanks to husband footballer Harry Kewell £ 65,000 a week salary.
His arrival in the forest was not the best and the comparison I am a legend Celeb Natalie Appleton drew when he was not keen on jumping from a plane in the camp. At least he wasn’t afraid of the trees. However, he redeemed himself magnificently by recovering five stars during a live forest work despite being scared stiff and remains one of the favorites to win.
JIMMY OSMOND
Best Price: 11/2 (Tote Sport)
“Little” Jimmy Osmond became the youngest person to have a number one with the annoying “Long Haired Lover from Liverpool” back in the 1970s. Since then, he has become a successful property tycoon, but is still giving his brand of music to the general public. He is a difficult person to call. While it looks nice enough and no doubt has an enormous fan base, it comes across as a little, well, odd. The latest polls in the tabloid press rate him as the favorite to win so the price at 11/2 may shorten as the show progresses.
CAROL THATCHER
Best price: 6/1 (Tote Sport)
Daughter of former Prime Minister Margaret and “famous” in her own right as a writer and broadcaster. Undoubtedly a “chip off the old block”, Carol has taken part in two Jungle trials so far and tackled them with gusto. First he drove a go-kart across a ravine on a rope bridge and a few days later sat down to dinner with Jilly Goolden to enjoy a meal of grub, cockroaches, fish eyes and finally a kangaroo testicle.
You have the impression that nothing will phase Carol during her stay in the forest and the producers will have to come up with something rather embarrassing to put her there. He will have staying power in this competition but he may not have enough of a fan base to lead him to victory.
TOMMY CANNON & BOBBY BALL
Best price 18/1 and 15/2 (both Bet365)
One day you have a hit TV show with millions of viewers and your own comic in the magazine “Look In” and the next you are the face of “Safestyle Windows” and doing gigs at Crown Hill Community Center and the like. Aging comedy duo Cannon and ball wrote in camp in five days, begging the question: “What’s the point?”
Latecomers never do well on reality TV shows because they are subconsciously seen as “outsiders” and a threat to the already formed group. When the ball arrives he does not waste time to “entertain” the other camps with “Rock on, Tommy” his slogan and it seems inevitable they will do a job together with “hilarious consequences”. However, the price to win individually? Surely you can’t have one without the other?
DAVID DICKINSON
Best price: 10/1 (sports odds)
The perma-tanned “Bargain Hunt” antiques expert is best known for his “Cheap as Chips” and “Bobby Dazzler” catchphrases. Like Cannon & Ball, it seems a bit of a strange choice to go to the forest but it can be a short stay in any case. He was not too happy to see the newcomers while the other camps embraced their arrival and he may find himself the first celebrity voted out.
JENNY FROST
Best price: 22/1 (Bet365)
Jenny became the third member of Atomic Kitten to try their hand at reality TV, following Kerry Katona’s success winning the show in Series Three and Liz McLarnon’s stint on Celebrity Love Island over the summer. He was paid more than any of the other campaigns appearing on the show with a reported fee of £100,000 being quoted in the press which is bound to cause some friction. While it looks beautiful and nice enough to look at, it has not had a chance to do anything to convince it can become the second kitten to reign as “Queen of the Jungle”.
ANTHONY COSTA
Best price: 25/1 (Tote Sport)
He used to be in the boyband “Blue” but unlike his three former bandmates, he doesn’t have a solo record deal – yet. He looked the odd one out during his group days and it didn’t really cut it as a young “heartthrob”. His dark and permanently unshaven appearance makes him look better suited to running a kebab shop than appearing on stage and hanging on bedroom walls in poster form. Another one that looks nice enough but doesn’t have enough on it to stand out from the crowd.
JILLY GOLDEN
Best Price: 50/1 (Tote Sport)
Jilly famously presented “Food & Drink” on BBC2 for nearly two decades and became the UK’s most recognized wine expert. However, he would not find anything like the grubs and kangaroo todger he got down when he did a job together with Carol Thatcher. His performance in this task will earn him respect and the 50/1 odds may be worth an interest and put out at a shorter price as the competition progresses.
KIMBERLEY DAVIES
Best price: 50/1 (Bet365)
Former “Neighbours” eye candy and ironically the first Australian to appear in the series. Good women never do well on the show and even if the permanently fresh-faced beauty gave her work her best shot on Day Two she may find herself voted off sooner rather than later.
SUMMARY
The three bookies favorites have the strongest case to win the show. Sid Owen has been one of the most recognizable faces on television for the past 15 years or so while if it came down to sheer voting power, Jimmy Osmond and his hoards of crazed fans would have it to his credit. However, I tend to back Sheree Murphy to become only the second Queen of the Jungle. He has a vulnerable quality about him that people will warm to while stubbornly refusing to wemp out of work even though it’s clear to see that he doesn’t enjoy a second of them. Another performance like he shows in the live work will see his 7/2 odds fall.
