Fasting on Fruit Juice For Weight Loss – A Good Idea?
You can lose weight from juicing and it can be lost quite quickly. It is possible in extreme cases to see the loss of up to 30 to 40 pounds in just one month. When someone sees this kind of dramatic weight loss they immediately think, wow! This is fantastic, achieving weight loss goals or fasting on a fruit juice diet is the way to go.
But it really is not the way to go. Now this is a little funny for me to say this because I am a pro-juicer. I drink the stuff freshly squeezed once in the morning and once last thing at night. So why am I against using fruit juice for weight loss? I will explain.
I’m not against drinking fruit juice while on a diet, I’m just not a fan of the idea of fasting using fruit juice. Now I’m not a doctor or any form of medical practitioner, but I decided to start fasting this month on a diet made entirely of liquids is not the best idea.
To be honest I don’t believe in diets anyway. Did you know that studies have shown that many people who lose weight on a diet end up putting more back on than they had in the beginning.
The thing is diets are self defeating. 99% of the time you’re done before you even start. The problem is that diet is always short term. It is also something that requires a huge amount of motivation and self-sacrifice and it is the sacrifice you make that ends up pushing everything down and returning you to your old weight.
Once you say to yourself “well, I’m starting this diet tomorrow, no more cake, no soda, no more fries etc etc” you create a craving. When you ban 100% of the foods you love, you end up putting them on a pedestal and what often happens is that once you reach the end of your diet, you feel compelled to go and take a big juicy bite of your chocolate cake. . dreamed about for weeks or months. Then Poof! The weight comes back on and very often more than what you lost in the diet.
If you think about thin people, many people can eat whatever they want and never seem to gain weight. Very often the reason for this is their fast metabolism. Now the good news is that there are techniques out there that will if applied increase your metabolism and there are methods that when used together can help you eat less in one sitting.
This is one of the secrets to losing weight and keeping it off. Don’t deny yourself the things you love, change the way you approach, eat and think about food.
There is a great book by Paul Mckenna. Now I have to put this in here, I am not selling it or reaping any kind of monetary reward from mentioning it. But reading it makes a lot of sense. In it and in his television program he covers the idea of starving yourself to lose weight as you do when fasting on fresh fruit juice.
Why it is not a good idea to fast, is because the body is a smart machine. When all of a sudden you deny him the food that he used to get year after year, he goes into a kind of survival mode. The body realizes that it does not receive the fats etc. that it used to receive on a regular basis and this is the smart bit. Instead of losing fat because you’re eating less of it, the body stops using as much and fights to store as much as possible.
That’s why on many regular diets, people are stumped on why they lose so little weight. I mean they cut the calorie count down to the bare minimum, but again the weight is still there. The reason is that your body is now storing every ounce of the stuff it can get from little to little. Oh and guess what when you come off the diet, your body is still in storage mode so when you have that chocolate cake, the body puts all the fat in the bank and more so than when you started your diet.
So fasting on fruit juice can help you lose weight, but in the long run I would not even entertain it because the end result is likely to be you will be back where you started.
