Kratom Tea-Making – Brewing and Dosing Ideas for the Rest of Us

Because kraton is not tested or approved by the FDA, kraton can only be sold in the United States to burn as incense – it burns beautifully, with a scent reminiscent of a crisp fall day. I can not tolerate the ingestion of kratom or kratom tea, but for those who are looking for an all-natural, effective, legal means to reduce chronic pain – say from Lyme disease or spinal cord problems, Kratom is an amazing herb, and can offer. the relief you seek.

Kratom is the dried and crushed (or powdered) leaves from the species Mitragyna speciosa, a tree native to Southeast Asia. The kratom tree is in the same botanical family as the coffee tree. It has been used as an herbal and recreational medicine for thousands of years, and offers stimulant (in low doses), sedative (in higher doses), analgesic, and (yes) euphoric, opiate-like properties. Kratom contains alkaloids similar to pharmaceutical, synthetic opiates, but they are said to be much less addictive. In fact, kraton is sometimes used as a means to reduce the withdrawal symptoms of opiate addiction. If you are going to use it for pain relief, however, please be careful and treat it with respect.

After 2 back surgeries and years of occasional, but severe discomfort, I came to realize that I needed a non-addictive means of controlling the spells of severe back pain that creep-up from time to time; Kraton fits this bill perfectly. Kratom is an all natural solution that really works for me. Frankly, I’m not sure if it actually dulls the back pain, or if it makes me just not care about it (because, frankly, it gives a really nice opiate-like buzz that feels just GREAT!). I guess it really doesn’t matter; I occasionally use kraton, I feel better…period. Life is good!

Now some people actually enjoy the age-old ritual of boil-soak-stir-tense-repeat, in order to make a batch of kraton tea. Indeed, some also taste alkaline-bitter, green-herb taste in kraton tea … but personally, I do not care-for either. Don’t get me wrong, I really like the smell of fresh kraton leaves and powder, and I love the pain-relieving and mood-altering effects of kraton, but the bitter taste of that alkali – the ingredient that makes kraton so special, just. turn my stomach The preparation of Kratom tea is not ritual for me, but instead a necessary evil, a real pain-in-the-butt chore that needs to be accomplished in order to enjoy the benefits of the leaf.

THE PROPORTION OF THE WOOD: I discovered that using an old-school coffee percolator takes the pain out of brewing kraton tea. I bought an old glass Pyrex 8-cup percolator on eBay for $15, and it makes really great tea kratons. I would stay away from automatic, plug in coffee or tea makers, because you will want to brew your kraton tea much longer than the typical automatic coffee percolator cycle. I really like my clear glass percolator for brewing kratom, so I can watch the dark tea as I go. Find a reliable source of kraton…remember, kraton is usually sold as incense. Personally, I feel it is better to stay away from extracts and adulterated “enhanced” mixtures – I stick with standard, all-natural kraton leaves.

Here is my simple mixing technique, you will need: – Half-ounce crushed kraton leaves. Some use powdered kratom, but I personally don’t like it, because it makes for a muddy kratom tea. – 2 liters of water (for two cycles of brewing 1 liter). – OPTIONAL, Lemon juice (see quantity below) – A stovetop percolator. – Another container – like a 2 qt. jug, mix both sugars together

LET’S BEGIN!

1- Put the kraton in the percolator basket, and pour 1 liter of water in the basket and in the percolator before you put the upper filter, to wet the kraton leaves. Then I like to make sure that the kraton is evenly distributed in the basket after pouring. Some believe that adding up to 25-percent lemon juice and water helps in extracting the alkaloids from the kraton leaf – this is a judgment call that only you can make.

2- Once the water is heated & starts to flow, start the timer – and let the kraton tea brew for at least 15 minutes… 20-25 minutes is more to my taste. Keep as low a flame as possible, a really hard boil to make tea kraton taste delicious!

3- After the 1st foam, leave the kratons in the basket (you can press them with a large spoon if you want, to remove more liquid, but this is not necessary), pour your mixture into a 2-card container, then pour the 2nd . liter of clear water (or lemon-water) in the kraton fill the basket and mix it too, just like the first. brew… again, 15 minutes or more.

4- You will notice that the 2nd brewing cycle produces a lighter tea, because you have extracted all the good stuff from the kraton leaves, thus tiring them.

5- Once finished I throw away the leaves (someone eats them – YUCK!), then I mix the 2 mixes together in the 2-card container to cool. Some boil the mixture further, to make a stronger tea… I don’t.

6- After some cooling, I pour the kraton tea into plastic bottles that clean iced tea, I put what I will use in a few days in the refrigerator, and freeze the rest. Kraton tea in the refrigerator will only last about 5 days, frozen tea will last months.

THE GAU MASK: As I mentioned above, I hate the taste of tea kraton. While I have never been able to fully mask the bitter flavor and taste of kraton tea, I have discovered that a half-teaspoon of a commercial flavoring extract per 16 ounces of tea will really help. My favorites are raspberry and peach, but spearmint and mint also work well. I also add 2 teaspoons of sugar, Splenda or Stevia. I drink my tea cold (iced tea), and usually with a straw, because I don’t like this mouth-numbing sensation, and the straw helps bypass the old taste buds.

THE OTHER OPTION: I’m a big fan of capsules… because there’s no taste at all. “Launch-N-Wash” is another option… put a teaspoon (or tablespoon) of kraton towards the back of the throat, and quickly wash it down with a liquid – a big swallow. I use orange juice, but others claim that there are actually benefits to using grapefruit juice – a reaction to the acids in grapefruit juice.

Believe it or not, “toss-n-wash” can sometimes leave less taste then tea, but the big problem with toss-n-wash is that occasionally, the kratom gets “stuck” in the throat – which is not a pleasant experience. ! I haven’t tried to “toss-n-wash” anything other than powdered kratom – I can’t imagine trying to swallow crushed-leaf kratom!

So there you have it…an “easier, gentler” method of using Kraton. I certainly hope that my experience and observation with this amazing ethnobotany could help you and others find the beneficial effects of kraton. Again, please use kraton responsibly. Do not drive while under its effects, make sure you give yourself the necessary time to enjoy the benefits of kraton; count on the effects of kraton to last more than 4 hours, and make sure you are in a safe environment, relaxing before use. kraton
