What Every Lady Should Know About Confinement

Every woman spends a lot of time preparing for the birth of a child and preparing their home to welcome the new addition to their family, but many do not know how to prepare themselves for the coming period of confinement. Most find themselves completely unprepared and are taken by surprise in what it really likes to be a lady in prison. You can avoid the drama by preparing yourself in advance for this line period.

One thing many women are not ready to deal with is the lack of sleep that comes with prison. A newborn baby needs round-the-clock care and most will require feedings every two hours. Some babies may sleep a bit more than others, but it is basic human nature to take a couple of hours of rest and then require feeding in order to continue on the next two hours of rest.

These sleeping habits are out of sync with the typical sleeping habits of a grown woman, which is why prison can be a mentally and physically exhausting period if you try to do it all on your own. Having a spouse or other children on hand can take some of the pressure off, but they’ll have their own schedules to tend to and they’ll get worn out quickly too.

This is why most women in prison will hire nurses to help care for the needs of the newborn. This is especially important during the first months of the baby’s life, because many babies will settle into a more routine sleep schedule after a few weeks.

It is important to understand that newborns wake up often because they have an insatiable need for nourishment. They may need diaper changes and love to be cuddled and kept warm, but their main concern in life is making sure their bellies stay full and they feel loved and well fed. That is why much of the prison period is spent feeding the baby.

Many new moms eventually discover that feeding time is a great time to bond with baby. You may think of the dark hours of the night and early morning as a time when you don’t want to wake up, but those times can be very special when it’s just you and the baby awake. Touching them, feeling them close, and looking into their sleepy eyes will bond you together like nothing else in life, so take advantage of it and enjoy it no matter how tired you may feel.

Another thing every woman should be encouraged to do in prison is talk to their babies. Don’t feel like you have to keep all your thoughts to yourself because your new baby can’t respond or understand what you’re saying. Talk freely about what’s on your mind so that the baby gets used to hearing your voice and begins to learn how to communicate himself. Yes, even in the first weeks of birth they can learn by hearing you speak!

One last thing that all women should know before entering prison is that babies are not broken. So many women go into prison afraid to move their babies in any way because they don’t want to hurt them, but babies are actually tougher than we give them credit for. Treat them with love and care and you will be just fine!
