If you are already an adult and your bones have finished forming, then you probably know that there is not much you can do to make them taller, barring surgery that lengthens the limbs. On the other hand, if you are still less than 23 years old, here is what I would do in your shoes to make sure that I grow as much as possible.

The first thing I would keep in mind is that it can be quite easy to stunt your growth without even realizing it. Both drinking alcohol and using drugs are likely to prevent you from reaching your full potential. And when I say that, I’m not talking about alcohol and drugs – I mean literally any degree of alcohol and/or drug consumption. If you are a teenager and want to grow as tall as you can, you will want to stay away from this stuff for as long as possible.

You should also make sure that your body has everything it needs to grow properly. After all, growing taller means developing more bones, and your body can only do that if it gets enough food, as well as enough rest. Your body uses food to build new muscles and bones, and most of this happens while you sleep. Make sure you eat a lot (although not so much that you become overweight) and that you get a minimum of 7.5 hours of sleep a night, even if you need more, then take it. Nothing should stand in the way between you and a good night’s rest! That’s when all the magic happens.

As long as we are on the subject of your diet, you should make sure that it has a lot of calcium – a vital micronutrient for healthy bone growth. You’ll find tons of calcium in all kinds of dairy products and green vegetables alike. You will also need an adequate supply of vitamin D (you will get some from eating fish or spending time in the sun), as it is important for bone and muscle growth alike. Finally, you will have to be very careful to get enough Zinc (eggs, chocolate, peanuts). Low zinc levels are associated with a drop in testosterone levels, which can negatively affect growth. Generally speaking, I think your best bet is to take a multi-vitamin on a daily basis, although you should always do your best to eat as much of the things I mentioned above as possible.

Another thing I believe you should try is some sort of stretching routine, maybe yoga, pilates, “Salutations to the Sun” routine, or any other tested & proven stretching regimen.

The last thing I want you to keep an eye on is your immune system. Getting plenty of vitamin C (fruits, vegetables and a multi-vitamin), a fish oil supplement, and plenty of rest will help keep you in top shape. And don’t forget regular vaccinations against diseases too! The reason you want to do this is that certain diseases when contracted as a teenager or a very young adult can stunt your bone growth, which obviously you want to avoid.
