Basketball Moms May Throw the Next Election
Soccer moms may lose the political power they would need to overturn the next election. Fathers are diluting the numbers. Moms aren’t just on the sidelines at their kids’ soccer games anymore. Fathers finally take a masculine stance and appease their wives’ wishes.
Fathers can throw the national election out of luck because of their manly assertiveness they are actually participating in the children’s football game! Sure, moms still rule the bandage aisle, school bake sales, and even the world of baby deliveries, but not the football games.
Fathers occupy the same amount of space, if not more than the mother. I would say, based on my own experience and mathematical recollection, the father makes one out of every two parents who have attended a football game. I’m basing this on our own parents’ attendance during our kids’ past soccer seasons.
My wife and I also attended many football games. My daughter, a freshman in high school, played on both the junior varsity and varsity teams. I think he played about 345 games.
My son in elementary school played about 121 games in our city league. My youngest daughter, who was only 4 years old, played her first season of soccer. He probably played 88 games. Did I say play? I meant… well, I guess “play” is the right word. It’s just that my son and older daughter are so serious about sticking to the rules, winning as a team, and putting that ball in the opponents’ goal, that for my 4-year-old, it’s playing.
I suspect that a thousand years ago, when soccer was just an upcoming Saturday morning activity for our American way of life, only mothers came out to their children’s soccer games. The father must have had to go hunting. They were more likely to work throughout the week in factories, office buildings, or some other primitive form of work, but on Saturday morning, they had to go hunting.
A thousand years later, I suggest that soccer moms don’t have the same political power that they wielded when men with long scraggly beards were voted into the white house.
I see a new trend emerging with basketball. I see history repeating itself. We may be going back a thousand years to the future because at my son’s last basketball practice, I was the only dad there!
Oh yes, I forgot, there was another father there. I did not see her when I first checked the gym and was surprised to see that I was alone in the crowd of mothers. There were four teams practicing, too. Four teams of 3rd and 4th grade basketball players is like a hundred kids? A hundred fatherless 3rd and 4th grade basketball players?
(I guess I wasn’t the only one who would rather be at a football game. Except for the guy with the laptop. Hey, wait a minute… I was sitting there scribbling with a pen and a paper pocket nerd pad while he was is typing in a sophisticated way on a high-tech data facilitation tool … just who is the real writer here? I guess me, because I can afford a pocket paper pad.)
New soccer moms can actually be basketball moms! The future of our nation can be changed in the bleachers of the basketball courts. This could be a trend that can leave fathers behind, or at least, still standing on the sidelines of the football field.
Dads may not be as interested in basketball as they are in other sports. Soccer rules my sports world. My children all participate and excel in soccer, but as spectators, my entire family is devoted to soccer.
My wife is an Alabama girl with a long line of Bear Bryant worship and red tide devotion. I, on the other hand, grew up in the RCA altar of Woody Hays and still followed the continued success of the Ohio State Buckeyes. Yes, I’m from a small town called Rossford, Ohio. I know everyone goes around telling people they are from Rossford, but I really am!
Football is interesting to watch. It’s not just a handful of guys running up and down the court to shoot a ball through a hoop. I’m tired of watching basketball. Run up and down, up and down, and up and down. I don’t get tired of watching baseball – it puts me to sleep too quickly.
Football keeps my interest. They pause, they strategize, they plan, and then they attack! There is the gnashing and yelling of lineman and quarterback hand-off and pass and block. Maybe basketball would be more interesting if a guard could sack the opponent during a lay-up. Maybe that would make more fathers come out to get rid of their grandchildren.
Now that I think about it, I don’t think that their mother was really interested in basketball either.
I saw a mother who writes Christmas cards. I saw several gathered in small groups talking. They may have planned campaign tactics for their favorite candidates coming up in the next election.
I wonder how many passenger vans were in the parking lot?
