Baby Diapers – How to Change Your First Baby’s Diaper
Changing diapers is indeed the most dreaded of all baby care activities. In fact, diapers have become so simple throughout the years. Whether you use disposable or cloth diapers, you will definitely be happy in the fact that they are easier to use and they hold more liquid with less incidence of leakage. However, with all the developments in diapers, first-time mothers still find the need to rely on books about “My first baby.” This is simply natural and the feelings of doubt are fairly reasonable.
Diapers are New Age
Now, no more horrible days of wiggly babies and diaper pins. Now, you just need to keep your baby safe. Cloth diapers have also turned out to be incredibly user-friendly. A lot of brands on the market are now known as “all in one” (AIO). They are more closely related to a disposable diaper since they can be secured using Velcro straps.
Disposable diapers are also available everywhere. As a matter of fact, there is a surplus of brands from which you can choose with various qualities and prices.
How To Use Diapers
It doesn’t matter what type of diaper you choose, cloth or disposable, the process of changing diapers is much the same.
1) Gather your supplies
Gather all the important items before you put your baby on the table. With this method, you will avoid all the safety hazards that usually arise from having to leave the baby alone to pick up items you forgot to arrange. Unpack the diaper in advance and put everything on the table. Make sure that everything you need is arranged and completely within your reach.
2) Baby’s position
Usually, mothers assign a particular area that is meant just for changing diapers. This could be as simple as a changing pad placed on top of a table, or as specific as a fully equipped diaper changing room with shelves and cabinets to serve all the basic supplies.
When you are a table, be sure to use a strap to hold the baby down and prevent the risk of falling. Be sure not to leave your baby alone at the table. As soon as you secure the baby on the changing pad, remove the old diaper. Also, don’t pull the diaper under the baby anymore. This gives you some margin of safety otherwise the cold weather may cause the baby to discharge more urine or stool.
3) Clean the baby
Now hold the baby’s ankles and gradually lift her bottom up. Start cleaning the bottom with the wet wipes you made earlier. In case you come across a dirty area, you can use the front side of the old diaper to clean up the mess. When you are done cleaning the baby’s skin, pull the dirty diaper and baby wipes from under the baby and put them away.
4) Change your baby’s diaper
Place the clean diaper under the baby and close the straps. For newborns, the top of the diaper is folded. With this method, you will make room for the umbilical cord. Don’t be afraid to slide the diaper gently. Just visualize the mess it would make if it was too free.
5) It’s Time To Clean Up
Once you’ve changed the baby’s diaper and put on some clean clothes, take the dirty diaper and cross the straps to transform it into a ball. Place it in a litter box designed only for diapers. Be sure to use a hand sanitizer or any decontamination liquid before holding your baby.
In fact, these are clearly some of the basic things you need to be taught about questions like “how to change my first baby’s diaper?”. You are certainly free to do further investigation if you need to. In addition, be sure to rely on your instincts whenever you care for your baby because not all parenting rules work very well with every condition.
