Stevie Nicks Gleerified!
The Queen of Rock ‘n Roll Stevie Nicks is back with ‘In Your Dreams’. Her first solo studio album in a decade released on May 4, 2011 caused a stir among Stevie Nicks fans worldwide. Music reviews say that the album is one of his best. Why, he wrote most of the songs himself. In addition, it is a collaboration of the brightest musicians in the industry. And we know that whenever Stevie Nicks writes her own songs, they become gold records. Remember? Did he write “Dreams”? The single that catapulted Fleetwood Mac to global fame?
But months before the release, Stevie made a visit to the set of Glee in support of the episode “Rumours” of Glee covering songs from Fleetwood Mac, the band of his life. The whole episode was a tribute to Fleetwood Mac. It was written by Ryan Murphy and directed by Tim Hunter. The episode premiered on Fox in May 2011. (US). Also, the episode features the return of Kristin Chenoweth in her recurring role as April Rhodes. The episode became the 13th most-watched TV series in the United States that week and the 3rd in the United Kingdom.
Sue Sylvester (yes, your favorite antagonist) started the fire. The cheerleading coach reinstated the school paper “Muckraker” to destroy the glee club by sparking conflict among the members. The muckraker spread rumors that almost tore the group apart. Santana scolds Brittany after reading a defamatory essay about her sexual problems caused by the latter’s web show (Fondue for Two). Another Muckraker article that scares Sam and Quinn almost causes a fight between Sam and Finn. Suspicious, Finn dragged Rachel in a bunch with him outside a dirty motel. To their surprise, Kurt was seen leaving the motel instead of Quinn which makes the whole situation more complicated and intriguing.
April Rhodes visits Will Schuester and asks him to help her with her new all-white version of the Whiz. Wil refused because of the club’s tension. April then compares their current situation to that of Fleetwood Mac. Will realizes the similarity and decides to make the week focus on “Rumors”, Fleetwood Mac’s best-selling album.
To introduce the new homework for the week, April and Will sang Dreams to the children. This leads to a classic Fleetwood Mac parade. Artie finally confronts Brittany about her true relationship with Santana leading to their sad breakup. Poor Artie sang ” Never Going Back Again ” after Brittany left him. Santana, filled with her feelings for her best friend, finally let it all out with “Songbird”. Angry Quinn, on the other hand, gave Finn an ultimatum: not one more song with Rachel or he’s out of her life (and Glee club too). The two performed “I Don’t Want To Know”. Rachel wasn’t backing down. He belted out “Go On Your Own Way” and let Finn play drums for it (genius, right?). Then rumors finally came to rest when everyone found out that Sam and his family now live in a cheap motel because they were mortgaged and his parents were unemployed for months. Kurt brought him some clothes and Quinn looked out for his younger sibling almost every night. After Sam’s revelation, the glee club went to visit Sam along with his pawed guitar (they bought it back). Finn brings him his old clothes. He was discouraged. For the final reconciliation, Sam brought his siblings to school and together, they sang “Don’t Stop”.
The episode mostly received favorable reviews. Critics believed that it is better than the previous episode. CNN France reporter Lisa Respers admitted that she needed a roll of tissues at the end of the episode. Little sibling Sam was so adorable on stage singing “Don’t Stop” that they made him cry. Obviously, this episode cleverly used some of the greatest classics available and integrated it into real drama. Not just for the sake of selling iTunes singles. Eric Futterman believes that the musical number was visually stunning and some of the best of the season. He pointed out that “Songbird” is the most heartbreaking.
Stevie’s McKinley stopped
The Glee stars were struck when the legendary rocker visited the set. The Fleetwood Mac singer gave a memorable speech in front of the cast. Stevie Nicks said, ‘If I wasn’t a musician, I’d be a teacher. And I would hope to send this message to the children – that although there are very important things like math and science and learning, you know, the kind of things that get you through life, you also need to find joy … And whether it’s through music or dance or things like that, you need to have outlets in your life.’ This part is where Diana Agron cried. The entire cast was moved by it.
