7 Bible Reading Tips for 2022
The purpose of this article is to give you tips that can improve your Bible reading in 2022. Oh what a rich spiritual chest God has placed before us the tip of the finger! Now more than ever, may the word be sweeter than honey and more precious than gold.
Here are seven tips to help you read the Bible this year.
TIP #1: Read the Bible Like Any Other BookMy first suggestion is to follow what I call “A Good Way to Read the Bible.” Simply put, a better way to read the Bible is to read it like any other book, which means we read it all. Think about the last time you read a book that you really liked and from which you got a great benefit. Did you read the whole thing, or just part of it? Did you read only a few chapters, or did you start at the beginning and go to the end. I’m stating the obvious, but to really understand the book, isn’t it best to read it all?
TIP #2: Read the Bible Like No Other BookMy second thought is to pray… before, during and after you read the Bible. This is one of my favorite Bible prayers: “I opened my eyes to see wonderful things in your law” (Psalm 119:18). The word “law” means “teaching” or “teaching.” The Word of God, unlike other books, contains the teachings and teachings of God. While the Bible should be read like any other book, it should also be read like no other book, because there is no other book like the Bible. It is the only book written by God, and we need His help to understand it.
TIP #3: Get the Big PictureWhen reading the Bible, always remember what Jen Wilkin said succinctly, “The Bible is a book about God.” I take this to mean that the Bible is usually or usually about God. It is His autobiography. Until a few years ago, this was a new concept for me and a hard one to swallow, so I know it can be surprising to some. But like life itself, the Bible is not about us. Sure, we’re there, too, and the Bible has a lot to say about you and me. But we are not the focus. God is. Therefore, every time you read the Bible, ask the question, “What does the Bible say about God (Father, Son and Spirit)?” And then ask, “What is my response to this teaching about God?”
TIP #4: Write down your thoughtsWrite your answers to these two questions in Tip #3. Keep a Bible reading book. This doesn’t have to be pretty. Write your thoughts on a notepad or a spiral notebook. I always learn and retain more when I interact with the information I read. Don’t just read and pray. Whenever possible: Read, pray and write. Even better: Request, Read, Request, Write, and Request.
TIP #5: Continue reading the Bible (or at least the New Testament)Yes, I’m back to Tip #1 – to understand any book, it’s best to read the whole thing. Can help you do this. A Bible Reading Plan is a good place to start, so search online and find one that interests you. Then… Go For It! By the grace of God and for the glory of God, he can.
This is where I went to work to read the entire Bible. For years I read the entire New Testament in one year. This can be done by reading one chapter a day, five days a week. After that, every two or three years, I read the Old Testament and the New Testament in one year. This is how I have done it for the past 15 years, and it has worked well for me.
If you are new to the Bible or reading the whole Book seems too scary now, why not start with the New Testament? Ultimately, however, you will want to read both Bibles; Your understanding of the New Testament will rise to a new level when you read and understand the Old Testament. And when was the last time you read only the last 25% of a book?
TIP #6: Get help to understand what you readNo matter what you read, take advantage of the many great resources that can help you understand the Bible. God has given many gifts to the Church. One of those gifts is the wise Bible teachers who have spent many years studying the Bible so that they can help God’s people to understand.
The Bible is a Book and a Book of Books. When you read the Bible, take the time to get the big picture of each book. A good student of the Bible should have the instructions and the summary of each book, which you will be able to read and use to point out that book. Another important aspect of the Bible is the different types of writing that are found in the Bible. Again, find a Bible study to help you learn what these types of texts are and how they differ.
TIP #7: Search Your Heart for the answer to this big questionFinally, let’s not forget the question “Why”. You are reading this because you want to read the Bible. That’s good, or so it would seem. But why? What is your goal? That is an important question. It is a matter of life and death. I think about this a lot because I know that my reasons for reading the Bible are not always pure.
How are you doing? How do you answer this question, “Why do I want to read the Bible?” The true believers who read God’s Word often know and praise God’s Word. There is a big difference between reading to know God and reading to know God. Please the former is your opinion, not the former.
Here’s a good one, God bless you in the New Year, and may you know God better in 2022 by reading His Word.
