30 Days of Gratitude: Day 4

Day 4 of our 30 days of gratitude. What wonderful stories I have read about your spouses and families, and thank you to everyone who offered to participate. I like these activities because it makes us get to know each other more.

Today is already busy in our house. Sunday is my husband’s birthday and since he works tomorrow and we are going to the mountains for a few days for his birthday, I tried to pull off a little family surprise birthday for him. It really works and it’s really surprising. It’s fun to see that and do things like that for him.

Today I thank my sister and her children. Each is unique, and each teaches a lesson to those around them. Lynn is the oldest of my brother’s five children. It has been a godsend for me over the years. If I need something, it’s there. If he can do something better, he does it. His personality is just hilarious and you really can’t help but laugh when he’s around. He is a bright star in the family. I’m very proud of the way he’s gone and the way he’s doing things with his kids. He has three children (below) and it seems that he is always there to make sure that they do what they want to do and participate. She is a very beautiful woman. He has a way of teaching people to find happiness in the little things and I love that about him. And while she has a good husband that I love very much, I don’t seem to have a picture of him. Will be changing soon!

It’s hard to believe that Danielle is 14 years old! She is a cheerleader this year and this is her first picture back home. An amazing young woman. His personality is fun and he has a lot of fun. I watched him with his younger brother and I was amazed that a 14 year old could be so patient. Danielle is a great teacher about the value of caring for family.

Megan is now 10. When she was 2 years old, it was difficult to take her place. Someone will praise how cute she is and if they say something to her (you know, people say “oh my, you’re beautiful”), the big one, means that the voice will coming out of this beautiful girl who will say “DON’T NOW” or “Don’t look at me.” It’s almost scary. We just talked about that today and, in her own words “It’s really sweet now.” Indeed it is. Megan is also a lesson about taking care of ourselves and our needs. It’s the age when children can feel that “it’s all mine” and it does its part of that. However, as I think, is it really bad? It improves the sense of knowing that your heart likes to be taken care of. He’s smart, creative, and probably the biggest Bobby Jack fan in the world. Sometimes the conversations he comes up with I wonder where the growth came from. However, it is true, she is sweet as can be and loves to take care of others. When I just got divorced and came to live in their house, he started taking my hair brush every night after he showered to brush the tangles out of his hair. We will talk about the date. Megan was very worried that I was alone with the dog and so she hugged me every chance she got so I would have more and “you won’t be alone when you go home.” I can’t wait to see how it grows.

At 8, Junior is all boys. He is his father’s dream, likes to play football and sports. He and his uncle (my husband) formed a special bond over football (well, Henderson said football, and we say football here). However, he is a gentle child who does not need to surprise me because he cares about others. This is the kid who skips a day off because the other kids can’t go outside and he doesn’t want to be alone. He is the one who will share everything he has. He is also a great protector of his sisters.

Today this group filled our house for birthday. I was blessed in the evening to hear the noise and excitement of the happy children. I am very happy for the laughter of children, unlike others. The way they find joy in the little things is a great reminder to us as we go throughout our day. I am very happy that I became a part of their lives.
