How To Finish Your Homeschool Year Strong
If you are a homeschooling mom, chances are this time of year you are itching to get this school year done. It’s sunny outside which means the kids haven’t been focused for the past month and let’s be honest, we homeschooling mamas are ready for a break too. Summer is so close we can feel it and after a long winter there is no need for sun treatment! However, you may have a little more learning to complete before you can write things that can take some time.
Fear not fellow homeschoolers, I’ve learned a few tips over my past 5 years of homeschooling on how to finish your school year strong and keep you from pooping .
1. Be more hands on learning
Those tests that you skip during the winter when your days are packed, now is a good time to do them! Not only will it be fun for the kids and a great change for them and you but you’ll also be reviewing the previous items at the same time. What school doesn’t like that!
2. Go outside
Now that the weather is warmer bring the lessons outside. Pack the books and move the study outside. Hearing the birds sing, getting some vitamin D and fresh air can be very invigorating. Spread a blanket out on your lawn or at a local park. Pack some water and snacks and enjoy learning in a natural setting. (Don’t forget the sunblock!)
3. Move on
Play learning games that involve movement. For example, if your children are learning more write numbers in chalk on the sidewalk and give them problems and then have them jump to the truth. Now we are doing this with division and division of truth. Don’t forget to go with them. It’s a great way to get some exercise for yourself too!
4. Give me time for yourself
This time of year I start feeling sick and my baby gets that quickly. Then it started to hurt too love You must write yourself before you can pour it out to others. I spend an hour and read on the deck or watch inspirational sermons. I grabbed my camera and went for a ride to see the beautiful scenery. Whatever makes your tank love, do it! It will help you feel good so you can finish the last few weeks strong.
5. Excursions
Now is the best time to travel. Visit the zoo, the aquarium, the local museum… whatever you like. It will make the children and you want more rest from your time but still allow for a lot of fun that your children will remember forever.
6. Give encouragement to children
This is the time of year when I like to give a little extra encouragement. Extra screen time, movie time, the promise of a lunch date at the cafeteria, extra art time…whatever your child likes. Use the boosters when it seems like your kids can’t breathe and watch them work!
7. Remember that you don’t have to finish everything
I’ve taught public school for 10 years and we’ve never finished a whole book. Many times the materials are reviewed at the beginning of the next school year so don’t rely on yourself to complete every lesson. Do what you can and during the summer break, pat yourself on the back for what your school has accomplished.
8. Thank you
It’s all OK mama. I promise. You and your children have worked hard all year and they have learned more than you will ever know. Please forgive yourself for the mistakes you have made this year or for not getting as much help as you would like. Be proud of what you have done and take time to be a family.
Summer is almost here and the school year is almost over so have a little more fun, get outside, move around, be creative with your lessons, take those missed tests and The most important thing is to celebrate what you have accomplished this year.
