Is Water Retention Something to Worry About?

Excessive fluid retention is a serious symptom and should be addressed by your doctor immediately. You should treat water retention early before it damages your liver.

Check for signs of water retention (as listed in the Fall Season)

1- Do you have trouble losing weight, no matter how long you try?

2- Press the finger firmly into your thumb. Does it stay deep for more than two or two?

3- Press the tip of your finger to the inside of your collarbone. Can your finger make a tooth?

4- Are your joints swollen?

5- How big were your shoes when you grew up?

6- Does your ring sometimes seem to not fit you anymore?

7- Is your stomach tight and swollen?

8- If you are a woman, have you ever had a breast injury?

9- Has your weight changed by a few pounds in the space of just 24 hours?

Your problem may very well be water retention.

There are many reasons to conserve water:

1- Dehydration is the most common cause of water retention. Your body is responding to an emergency of dehydration. Believe it or not, the best thing you can do early on for water retention is to drink more water. Drink water every day to make sure you have enough water for all of your body’s daily functions. Stop around 5pm so you can sleep.

2- Hormone problems can cause water retention as well. This can be easily determined if your doctor examines you. If you suspect water retention, INSIST that your hormones are tested.

3- Vitamin and mineral deficiency is a cause of discomfort and chronic pain. Even if you eat a variety of whole foods, you can still suffer from malabsorption. You may have a deficiency and not know about it. The seemingly “magical” cure of many chronic conditions using special foods has been well documented.

4- Food allergies can be a problem. Seek the advice of an expert to diagnose food problems. This can not be done with a blood test, just remove all the allergens in your food and then re-introduce the food once, you can see your problem.

5- Many sensitive people cannot tolerate toxic foods. Similarly, eating the same food all the time can cause allergies. When your body cannot tolerate the foods you eat, the result is abdominal discomfort, and eventually swelling and fluid. If your “stomach” is not healthy, you cannot absorb any of the life-giving nutrients that you chew and swallow. Refined sugar is one of the biggest culprits for growing bad bacteria in your gut. You did well to avoid it. Good gut bacteria in the form of probiotics will help, along with enzymes to help with digestion to bring your body back to life. You take the most drugs and stimulants that work over your liver and adrenals through your mouth.

6- When you are exposed to chemicals in your home, school, or workplace, you can become irritated, eventually causing pain and water retention. Washing machines, and even floors, upholstery etc., can cause real water problems for some people.

7- If you don’t eat enough calories; Your body will retain fluids.

8- If you have lung disease and / or heart disease and do not treat your low oxygen, you will see fluid on your ankles when your heart is hungry, and weak. Treating your low oxygen levels will remove the fluid from your ankles. I have found supplemental oxygen to relieve fluid around the ankle many times.

If you retain vital fluids, you won’t be able to absorb oxygen which is harmful to your entire body and weakens your heart!

Please let swollen ankles be a RED FLAG!

If you have water on your ankles, it is more likely that you have water in your lungs.

As a matter of fact, water retention should be addressed before it begins to collect on your ankles.

You can’t breathe through water!

Every time your body suffers from lack of oxygen, your body is damaged. You will soon notice problems with your eyesight, short-term memory, and the strength of your heart muscles.

You may have oxygen that you don’t know about, but you know that you are always tired.

Ask your doctor to check your blood oxygen level with a pulse oximeter if you are experiencing any of the following symptoms:

* water retention (especially feet/ankles)

* Very weak

* shortness of breath / shortness of breath / dyspnea

*chest tightness

* mental confusion/short-term memory loss

* tingling fingers

* Long cough

* blue color around the lips

(If you wake up at night gasping for breath, tell your doctor!)

Remember that anything below 92% blood oxygen saturation warrants treatment with supplemental oxygen, although insurance companies won’t pay until the reading drops to 88%

Your body needs more oxygen with physical activity!

You should check your oxygen levels during exercise every day.
