How to Make a Winter Crafts Snow Globe
Snow globes are great for any occasion or holiday, just change what you use to create your space. Just let your imagination run wild!
For example, make a harvest for Thanksgiving, a haunted house for Halloween, a red heart Valentine or a colorful Easter/Spring display for the holiday of your choice.
Other themes can include a special birthday or event, sports team, favorite cartoon or superhero, seashell or Victorian motif, to name a few.
Once you have an event or theme in mind, it’s easy to assemble the elements for a unique design.
Winter Crafts SNOW GLOBE
Equipment:
Clear Glass Jar with tight fitting lid (pickle, pimento, jelly, baby food)
Small Waterproof Ornaments, Figures or Decorations
Distilled water or water that has been boiled and cooled
Clear Silicone Sealant (Aquarium Sealant) or Florist Clay
Eggshell or Foil Confetti
Glitter
Glycerin or Mineral Oil
Optional: Plastic lid to fit inside the box lid,
Circles of Fabric, Ribbon or Lace
1. Choose a Dry Cleaning Bottle – Baby food jars are great for kids crafts, pimento jars have a unique button, and large jars allow you to add variety to your space. Just fit your box to your final needs. Remove any labels and leftover food.
2. Prepare your Snow Globe Scene – Check your sewing supplies and home supplies for information and inspiration. You can make people, animals, trees – you name it – from foam crafts. Sewing discovery is good at small things too. Also consider small items of craft or hobby items. Be sure to shop the day after the holiday for more discounted items!
3. Save the photos and decorate them inside the jar cover with silicone sealant or florist clay. To improve the situation clearly, put a plastic cover in the lid or create an area with a little more florist clay. Be sure to leave the edges clear so you have room to screw on the lid. Set aside to dry.
4. Prepare Your “Snow” use the shell from a hardboiled egg. Separate the shell from the membrane, place in a sturdy ziploc bag, and crush with a rolling pin. Small objects will fall lower in the snow globe and have a better effect. However, do not crush the egg into powder because it will easily float in the water instead of falling slowly.
Depending on your theme, you can change your “white” to go with it. Try themed confetti available at craft stores to add interesting details to your creation. If you’re doing a Halloween or Thanksgiving party, look for foil pages in fall colors. For Easter you can use foil flower confetti. For a sports theme, use glitter in your team’s favorite colors.
The possibilities are endless and make sure that you are creating a one-of-a-kind snow world!
5. Heaven – When you are satisfied with your scene of the snow globe, fill the jar with distilled water, leaving a small space at the top to fit the image. Add a few drops of glycerin to make the snow clear and float properly. Mineral oil or a little oil can also be used in place of water and glycerin.
6. Add Snow and Glitter – When adding the eggs, make sure you have enough to cover the lid when it’s on the bottom. Use silver glitter with eggshells to make shimmery snow – use a teaspoon of glitter for every inch of water. If you are adventurous, experiment with different effects. Use a drop or two colored batteries to create a swirling effect. Add food coloring to the water or use different colors.
Close the box tightly and shake your snow globe. See how the snow is falling and watch it all. Tweak until you get the desired effect by adding a little snow, glitter or confetti.
7. Seal the Dome – When you are sure that the shape and the shape are set to your satisfaction, and the snow to water ratio looks good, add a bead of silicone sealant around the threads of the lid and close it tightly.
8. Add the final touch – For more decoration and finishing, cut a circle of beautiful fabric slightly larger than the cap. Secure the lid with an elastic band. Hot glue a piece of ribbon or lace over the elastic band.
You will be proud to display and enjoy your original
winter crafts snow globe creation.
