Mobile Oil Change Businesses Are Very Hard to Succeed In
There are many people who have come and gone in the oil change on the cell phone. It always seems easy from the source and also cheap to start with minimal investment compared to most other businesses. But most oil changers rarely make it past the first year. In fact most don’t make it past the first few months. One must wonder why such a strategy will ultimately fail. Let’s take a closer look.
First the income from oil change is not enough to sustain a healthy economy. After you calculate the cost of the product from the total cost rarely more than twenty five dollars from your oil change. And that figure does not include the fuel used to drive the vehicle to the actual location. You need to do several oil changes a day for you to get good results to support your business and your personal expenses. Most lubricants make less because of their higher overhead and don’t make it in large volumes. Most successful stables have done 60 oil changes on a bad day. A mobile gas station, with most of one or two people working it, is not a luxury. The most your oil changer can do is ten oil changes a day and then the operator is done. And even if a person can do ten oil changes a day he still has to produce oil changes at the place. They don’t magically appear. Do you have a plan to do so? Most start out thinking that the business school will provide tons of business especially if it has been done by the companies there. In reality that rarely works as advertised and you’ll be lucky if you get 10 clients a year from a big company. Having mentioned these three major problems, and there are many more, I will say that it is impossible. I was done with it. But I thought someone would be straight with me before me and my partner spent over $80,000 getting into the oil change business. We were sold on a lot of false hopes and dreams from Jet Set Life Technologies about getting rich using crude oil heavy models. They set us up with a good van and their products are good but their whole system is bad from bottom to top. We found a way to make it work but sadly 90% of oil change business people don’t. The success rate is very low. Understand where it really is and if you think you can chew it and not make money for 2-3 years, go for it.
