In India They Simply "Get It"

I have just returned from a 3 week vacation to the north of India. I have traveled without my wife and three daughters to gain access to the many problems of life. I went in with no plans or expectations at all. I left with a small bag, a ticket from Melbourne to Delhi, 2 large bags (sweets) with no room left. I knew from my previous visits there would be no problem, and I had yet to see a stranger sleeping in the well. Needless to say, I slept well. For anyone who has spent more than 1 week in India knows what an asylum the place is. Cows roaming on dusty roads, rickshaw drivers rarely drive on the right road, and the absence of 2 questions: “What country do you come from” and “What’s your name”. Action that doesn’t seem to stop, but the attraction is unstoppable. There is a thirst to be a part of it. All I want to know is “why”. Is it just a case of the grass being greener or is there something more. Why the environment of the urine does not smell, and the burning makes many people very happy?

On the 3-4 hour train ride from Amritsar (Home of the Golden Temple) to Pathankot, I was once again approached by Indians who wanted to communicate using Punjabi and even the cell phone to communicate. After about 30 minutes, I was approached by a very well-spoken 25-year-old Indian. Early in the conversation he seemed interested in my life coaching and started sharing his personal problems with me. As my time was limited I explained a few things to him, talked about his blindness, and even gave him a few things to help him. After about 15 minutes he explained that he had to get off the train when the stop was approaching, and turned to me and asked me if I would join him and continue the conversation in it the house. Without thinking, and although I was 3hs from my place, I agreed and got out of the small parking lot in the middle of nowhere. I’m just out of my comfort zone, and the decision is strong, and the bottom line is the right one. Being a pretty good judge of character and given that most of the Indians I met were inviting and caring I had no problem joining my new friend. After a 10 minute bike ride from the station, I arrived at a middle class (Indian style) house. I was introduced to an 85-year-old grandmother, a beautiful and innocent-looking mother and a gentle, almost beautiful-looking Punjabi father.

For the next 2 days I was spoiled with new Indian cooking, and meeting the friends and family of my new friend Vikram. I appreciate the hospitality of the wonderful people I have met. I’m not sure where their happiness begins or ends. It seems to be a part of every moment that exists. It’s hard to put it down to one or two things, however I have no doubt that a simple life, living in simple places is part of the equation. The time was filled with friends and family discussing the events of the day. When friends come over (which is often), grandparents sit on the bed and are part of the conversation. There is no anger for anything. No rush after school activities, simpsons, playstations, computer, tv, no pressure to do homework and no need to go somewhere or be anywhere. There are few people who want to compete. People have what they have and what they have is what they have. Like in the West, most people don’t really think or spend time thinking about what they are or just planning their lives. They are on autopilot to live the life created for them.

In India, how many people can sit for hours, and be satisfied? How can thousands stand in an hour in the heat, just to sacrifice at the temple? From the shops in Shimla to the Tibetan works in Dharamsala to the sikhs at the Golden Temple in Amritsar, people are not pushy and happy.

I’m not saying that these people don’t have the human spirit of wanting to improve their lives if they believe they can, it’s just interesting to note the satisfaction received of not having to chase after something. Many Hindus play a very good life. They do not create illusions about the future only when it comes to the afterlife, and it is good to put their past in the past.

We all know that if you are a person who rushes and pushes forward or you are a person who knows how to relax and enjoy life, you will end up with 6 hearts.

Someone told me that the 1st step to wealth, security and happiness is to appreciate what you have now and accept now that you are healthy, you have safe and happy now, because these things are relative.

If people in the West would stop for 2 minutes every day and consider what they have as “perfect” and be able to train their minds that they have plenty of everything they want and need, then they can adjust their thinking and be satisfied with what they want. have

My trip to India was not only fun and colorful, it once again reminded me that I am the luckiest person in the world, not just because I have a family. pretty healthy, because I’m just alive and always more aware. wonder what is around me. The universe is a wonderful place in every way and all we have to do in this world is to see what is already there for us.

I hope I have made a difference in your life, even in the smallest way.

Jonathan Laurie

Life is beautiful.
