The Key (A Fairytale) – Chapter 7 – A Step Above Oblivion (Part 4)

This I did not want to hear. But knowing that it was better to follow the advice of a John, I made my way to the cliff and carefully looked at the edge to stay as far as I could. There, a hundred feet below was a rock-like tooth that would impale anyone unfortunate enough to fall from that abyss. I looked back towards my hut. Could I stay awake without subjecting myself to this kind of madness? And then I found myself walking back, up the steps, and resigned to sitting down to do my inner work.

I actually stayed wide awake for a long time, but eventually I found myself sleeping again, and became so disgusted with myself that I addicted stomped back to the cliff.

This indeed was not plain. There were only two things I was very comfortable with; heights and ghosts, and this cliff was the epitome of my fear of falling. I sat on the ground and climbed towards the corner, not daring to look down. Then I swung one leg over the edge, then the other while leaning on my arms, and kept my balance as far as I could toward safety. I knew that I would eventually have to sit in the correct position to do my inner work, but I had to slowly gain confidence. I was certainly wide awake, however!

I carefully, and slowly raised myself in a straight sitting position, still not looking down but painfully aware of my situation, as I began my inner work. It was not long before I was sweating a lot, and incredibly awake, imagine that my balance moved forward towards the teeth smile below, and at that moment I would quickly lean back on my elbow!

This is how things went for a few hours until I noticed myself nodding! This was incredible! How in the world could I be stupid enough to let myself nod in a situation like this? This was not good, and I became wide awake, only to nod off again in a while. This continued for an interminable amount of time until unbelievable; I woke up to find myself sliding off the side of the cliff! How could that be? One of my biggest fears was coming true, and I had no way to stop it!

I went on, head first, so I twisted quickly and clawed at the vertical face. Something hit me in the groin as I slid down – a bush growing on the side of the cliff – and as I passed, I was able to grab it and hold it tight. I called for help until I was horse and could not call anymore, hanging on and hanging above certain death. The bush was not rooted deeply, and every time I called, it would pull out a little further; I didn’t have much time. Then a figure suddenly appeared on me with his hands on his hips, and immediately assumed it was a John keeping an eye on me, but with the sun at his back, I could not say for sure who he was

Whoever he was, he continued to look at me, and then I knew I was done when he turned his back and walked away. The bush was now only held by some thin roots and it would pull out at any moment, so I closed my eyes and waited for this incredible peace that comes when death approaches.

Suddenly, something hit the back of my head! It was a rope, and as it hung around me, I was so weak that I could not even grab it. Suddenly, someone jumped over the edge and slid down the rope until he could put his arm around me, holding the rope with the other as the bush pulled out.

We began our slow climb, inch by inch, until somehow we reached the top. My savior brushed his head, and without a word, began to walk away. I called out, “Moosawa! Wait a minute.”

I untied the rope from the tree where Moosawa had attached it and handed it to him. With both hands on the rope, we looked at each other for a moment. “Why did you save me?” I asked, surprised.

“I’m not sure.”

“You might let me fall to my death; a legitimate accident, and then take my body back for the bounty.”

“Yes, that crossed my mind.”

“So why did you save me?”

“I don’t know. When I first arrived, I only pretended to do the interior work, waiting for you to appear, but as the months passed, I got bored just sitting there and actually tried it. This little taste of the inner work, together with the openness and love of these devoted, harmless men, especially a John who knew from the beginning that I was there to kill you, had an unexpected effect on me.

“The night I released the snakes, I was torn. I began to see the futility of escaping into the void” these men talk about, of collecting the bounty and living a life of luxury, but my ex “was still in charge After I made sure that you were bitten, I returned to my hut to wait for the news of your death. Suddenly a point of light came down from the window I opened and lit the floor, transforming itself into a beautiful woman. Six months from that before I came here, I did not believe in immaterial beings – they are part of children’s fairy tales. But now I do.

“I did not know what to make of him. He spoke to me in my head somehow, and what he said shocked me, as if I had been struck by a bolt of lightning. He showed me ‘, in my mind somehow, the rest. of my life and how it will play if I continue in my path. And that scared me. Then he showed me the future life in horror and torture, I was buried alive and suffocated many times, and grotesque, monstrous beings chased me in places. not on this earth. When I cried out, he calmed my mind quickly, after that I experienced nothing but indescribable peace and ease.

“After he left, I went to your hut to help but I could see that you were both suspicious, and when a John looked at me with his hand on my shoulder, I knew that my life would not be never the same. to leave the community as soon as you were cured, but something told me to stay just a little longer.”

I asked: “Did the immaterial person tell you his name.”

“Savaka” He replied.

“Yes, I know Savaka. He is your helper now. . . . So where are you going now?”

“I don’t know. I feel confused and lost.”

“You’ve become a real key-seeker like me, and we’re both lost. But I know in my heart that we’ll find our keys one day, and I wish you nothing but happiness.”

“Yes, I wish you good luck too, my king. I’m leaving this morning so you don’t have to worry about me anymore. I’m really sorry for what I put you through.”

“Yes, I will remember you every time I look at the scar on my stomach and back from your ill-aimed arrow, and now on my snake-bitten ankle!” Then I smiled and bowed to him with my hands folded in my chest, as we parted company for the last time.

He slowly walked down the trail but something was different about Moosawa; he stood a little straighter now.

Sleep, not surprisingly, was no longer a problem after this episode, and one night while my inner work deepened, I had my first vision. It happened when my mind finally slowed down enough with my inner workings so that I could maintain undisturbed attention on my breath for an hour. What I imagined in the visions was the skeleton of the woman on the table and the baby from the hall climbing my steps. . . bush, bush, bush. Then I imagined the skulls covered the walls of my hut, and when I screamed out of fear, the vision disappeared.

Jon always insisted that I mention any unusual events during my inner work, so when I mentioned the visions, he smiled and said, “The first five to ten years of your inner work will show up sooner or later, and the sooner you conquer these feelings the better. Face the fear immediately, and any visions, words, lights, or anything else you see or hear within should be canceled without delay; just immediately return to your breath.”

He further explained that this hidden fear caused my false perception of myself. It was addressing what the blacksmith was trying to tell me when he said I wasn’t who I thought I was.

“No progress can be made towards the spiritual life without an equal sacrifice in the material life,” a John added. “Only abandoning something in your mind is insufficient and it is simply a lie and arrogance; you must release it forever in your heart – and this requires insight and wisdom. Eventually, you must sacrifice everything including your belief in yourself, ‘and when you do this, fear will naturally arise because when you begin to renounce the life of the world and abandon yourself,’ you do not yet know if there will be anything on the other side. Therefore, you will unconsciously afraid and stuck for a while. When we face the void, this is how it always is. We do not have the insight at this point to know that just on the other side of this void is everything, including Facts.”

The vision continued to frighten me, repeating itself every few nights until finally a John put his foot down. “It’s time to face your fears!” He said, “You must sit all night, alone, next to the cremation vision, and by the table that holds the remains of the woman’s skeleton until your fear goes away!” I was not happy. This would be worse than the cliff, but I hesitate to agree to do it.

The following evening, I took my bed and timidly approached the cremation not far from the skeleton lying on the table with part of its flesh still hanging from its bones. I’ve always been brave, not afraid to fight anyone or anything, but this was different; this was supernatural! A cold fear gripped my heart like a vice when I saw the table.

Looking around quickly, especially behind me, I put my rug on the floor next to the cremation fire and tried to continue with my inner work. No luck, I clearly imagined the skeleton sitting and walking towards me, and I was sure that the bones and skulls were cooled by the fire that had passed on my way; and even that the baby was pulled out of the room. I did not move; I could not! I just sat there enveloped in the dark night, sweating it out in white-knuckled fear.

It must have been around one in the morning when I heard a rustling behind me in the leaves. Then something hit my leg. Something was crawling on my leg! I was petrified! Was it the skeleton; Is that the baby, the skull? I could not move a muscle except for my eyeballs, as I slowly looked down.
